The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has placed airlines, airport operators and other aviation stakeholders on high alert following the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda.

In a circular dated May 18, 2026, the aviation regulator directed all operators within the sector to intensify public health surveillance and strengthen preventive measures against the possible spread of the deadly virus into Nigeria.

The NCAA said the directive became necessary amid growing concerns over cross-border transmission of the disease through air travel, noting that the aviation industry remains a critical frontline in containing infectious outbreaks.

Although no confirmed Ebola case linked to the current outbreak has been recorded in Nigeria, the authority said it is already working closely with the Federal Ministry of Health, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Port Health Services and international health bodies to monitor developments.
