The organisation said the PDP failed to act cautiously by clearing the former minister for the race while investigations into the allegations were still ongoing.

The Defence for Democracy, a civil society organisation, has warned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may jeopardise its chances in the Enugu governorship election by allowing a former Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, to contest its primaries amid allegations of forged credentials.

The organisation said the PDP failed to act cautiously by clearing the former minister for the race while investigations into the allegations were still ongoing.

Nnaji had resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet following the controversy surrounding his academic credentials and is currently being investigated by relevant authorities.

In a statement signed by its National President, Dr Emeka Nwachukwu, the group accused the PDP of ignoring the political and legal implications that could arise from fielding the former minister as governorship candidate.
