PPC’s share capital increase contained the decline of the Greek bourse benchmark on Monday, as banks were once more at the forefront of stock sales regarding concerns for another round of aggression in the Middle East.
One can almost safely assume the pendulum will swing the other way come Tuesday. Against that background, the course of certain national champions, PPC included, give Athinon Avenue a breath of fresh air.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,236.24 points, shedding 0.47% from Friday’s 2,246.82 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index contracted 0.42%, ending at 5,671.02 points.
The banks index conceded 0.72%, as both Eurobank and Piraeus parted with 1.59%, Alpha gave up 0.39% and National eased 0.36%. ElvalHalcor fell 6.44%, while Public Power Corporation bucked the trend to grow 2.38%.
In total, 28 stocks boasted gains, 77 posted losses and 18 remained unchanged.
