The EFCC acknowledged the public concern generated by the development and admitted that the episode caused discomfort within the hospital and among Nigerians who followed the incident.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apologised to the management and staff of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), as well as members of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), following the controversial incident involving operatives of the anti-graft agency and medical personnel at the hospital on May 12, 2026.
The apology was directed by the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, after the Commission received and reviewed a preliminary report on the incident that sparked outrage among medical professionals and members of the public.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the anti-graft agency on Monday, where the Commission specifically apologised to Prof Eyo Ekpe, the Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee of UUTH, and members of the Nigerian Medical Association.
According to the statement, “Pursuant to the receipt and consideration of a preliminary report on the May 12, 2026 incident involving personnel of the Commission and medical staff of the Uyo University Teaching Hospital, the Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede has directed that an apology be made to Professor Eyo Ekpe, the Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of UUTH, and members of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA.”
