State volcanologists on Monday night recorded an episode of lava effusion with collapse-fed pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) or “uson” from Mayon Volcano.The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) shared sped-up camera footage of the lava effusion with collapse-fed PDCs “reaching approximately 2,000 meters from the crater along Mi-isi gully.”The volcanic activity was recorded on camera from 9:45 p.m. to 10:06 p.m. of May 18.Mayon Volcano’s effusive eruption continued for the 133rd consecutive day, generating incandescent lava flows, PDCs, and rockfalls.Earlier on Monday morning, PHIVOLCS said it logged nine PDC signals and 428 rockfalls in the past 24 hours, higher than the five PDC signals and 351 rockfalls reported on Sunday.Alert Level 3 is still in effect over Mayon Volcano, which means there is intensified unrest or magmatic unrest.Entry into its six-kilometer radius permanent danger zone (PDZ) remains strictly prohibited due to persistent hazards. — JMA, GMA News
