MANILA, Philippines – A House of Representatives committee approved a bill barring relatives of public officials from entering government contracts on Monday, in a proposal aimed at eliminating potential conflicts of interests in the bidding process
The House Revision of Laws Committee approved the unnumbered substitute bill that seeks to disqualify relatives “within the fourth civil degree of consanguinity or affinity” of any public officials from “participating in, entering into, benefitting from, or performing any government contract.”
“The disqualification shall apply throughout the tenure of the covered public official or personnel and for a period of three years after separation from office,” a draft of the bill, a copy of which was obtained by the Inquirer, said.
