For most of their life, Violet (whose pronouns are they/them), worked minimum-wage jobs and lived paycheque to paycheque. Two years ago, the 36-year-old Toronto resident became a nurse and started a full-time job with steady income — but they’re stuck in a scarcity mindset.
“This is the first time I’ve ever had any kind of income like this,” Violet says. Their net monthly income is $4,700 and they have $1,500 left after needs are taken care of, but they’re unsure how to manage the money, with no idea how to save for home ownership and retirement.
