Sometimes, all you need to have to secure a job is determination and never-say-never attitude. Taking to X, a user named Hazel revealed how they got a job at her dream company. At first she applied to a job where she lacked many of the requirements. The job asked for 10+ years of experience, leadership background and certifications. “The posting asked for: • 10+ years of experience• Leadership background• Certifications I’d never even heard ofI had three years. And a lot of audacity. I applied anyway,” wrote Hazel. To no one’s surprise, she received a rejection letter. Instead of being demoralised, she decided to send an email. In the carefully written email, she thanked the recruiter for considering her application and asked a million dollar question: “What skills would I need to develop to become a serious candidate for a role like this in the future?”I wasn’t asking for a second chance. I was asking for direction.” wrote Hazel. — Hazel_qs (@Hazel_qs) The email did it’s magic. Within an hour, the recruiter offered her another position which was not posted publicly but fit her profile rather nicely. “Two interviews later, they offered me the job. Better pay.A clear growth path. And a company I thought would never look twice at me…” she wrote. Sharing her success story, Hazel wrote that sometimes, a strategic and carefully-worded follow-up can work wonders if your application has been deemed lacklustre. Hazel’s tweet went viral. One X user replied: “Recruiters keep a mental shortlist of candidates who stood out but weren't quite right for the current role. A well-written follow-up after rejection puts you on that list. Most candidates never send one.”Another X user pointed out that sometimes, a direct, no-nonsense approach that involves asking for the job can indeed work. “Also, if you want the job ASK for it. After many interviewing sessions, so few people actually ask for the job. Tell me why you think you would be an asset or the skills you could utilize in new position. Sell me on why we should move forward with you.”
She was rejected for a senior position. But her one question made the company offer her a job that suited her education and experience
A determined job seeker, despite lacking experience, applied for her dream role and was rejected. Instead of giving up, she emailed the recruiter asking for guidance on skill development. This strategic follow-up led to an unexpected job offer for a different, suitable position within the company.
