A chilling murder case from Karnataka’s Tumakuru district has shocked locals after police revealed that a father allegedly killed his 17-year-old daughter because he opposed her relationship with a man she wanted to marry. The accused, identified as 48-year-old farmer Timmarayappa from Nimbemaradahalli village in Sira taluk, was arrested nearly a month after both he and his daughter were reported missing.Police said the victim, T Meghana, was in a relationship with an electrician who was also a close relative of her mother, Nirmala. While Meghana’s mother reportedly supported the alliance, her father strongly opposed it.According to investigators, the murder took place on April 16 after Timmarayappa allegedly called Meghana to the family farm. Why did the father allegedly kill his daughter?Police said an argument broke out between the father and daughter over her relationship and plans for marriage.During the confrontation, Timmarayappa allegedly strangled Meghana in a fit of rage.Investigators believe the murder was driven by his anger over her choice of partner and his refusal to accept the relationship. What did the accused do after the murder? After Meghana lost consciousness, the accused allegedly threw her body into a farm well. However, later that evening, he reportedly became worried that the body might float to the surface and expose the crime.Police said he returned to the well at night, pulled the body out, carried it to a nearby dry lakebed under the cover of darkness, and buried it in a shallow grave. The next day, Meghana’s parents approached police and filed a missing person complaint. How did the accused try to escape police?About a week after the complaint was filed, Timmarayappa himself disappeared from the village along with his motorcycle and some cash from home. His wife later filed another missing complaint, this time about him.Police launched a search operation, but investigators initially struggled because both Meghana’s and Timmarayappa’s phones had been switched off since the dates they were reported missing.According to police, the accused spent weeks moving between nearby taluks on his motorcycle while trying to avoid detection. He allegedly slept in temples and bus stands and even bought a second-hand mobile phone and a new SIM card to stay off the radar. How did police finally catch him?The breakthrough came on May 15 after police received information that Timmarayappa had visited a friend in a village located around 3 kilometres from his home.During questioning, the friend allegedly told police that the accused had been asking for advice on how to get anticipatory bail in a murder case. The friend also shared the accused’s new mobile number with investigators.Police tracked the number and discovered that Timmarayappa had secretly returned to his own village. He was taken into custody on Saturday.Officials said he initially pretended to be a grieving father and denied any involvement in Meghana’s disappearance. However, after sustained interrogation, he allegedly confessed to the murder.
