Detectives believe he was walking through the Castlefields area when he was approached from behind and seriously injured.‌Staffordshire Police say specialist officers are continuing to support the victim and his family as the investigation continues.‌The force has renewed appeals for information and are urging anyone who was in the Castlefields area between 5pm and 8pm on Thursday, or those with CCTV or dashcam footage, to get in contact.The suspect is being described as aged in his mid-to-late-20s, of average build, wearing dark clothing and could be of Eastern European descent, police said.‌"We want to reassure residents that a significant and sustained police response is in place," Staffordshire Police said in an update today. "Detectives and specialist officers are working around the clock to investigate the serious assault that took place," the force added.Locals have been warned of an increased police presence in the Castlefields area and surrounding neighbourhoods, with officers carrying out patrols, house-to-house enquiries, extensive searches and forensic examinations."We want the public to feel safe and confident in their community. While incidents of this nature are rare, we recognise the impact they have, and we are taking this extremely seriously," police said.‌Detective Inspector Dave Rowlands said: "I want to reassure the community that we are doing everything in our power to identify and apprehend those responsible. There is a significant policing operation underway, including increased patrols in the area, and I would encourage anyone with concerns to speak to our officers."We are committed to keeping the public informed and ensuring the safety of our community.
