The governor’s directive comes amid growing fears of a possible spread of school attacks and kidnappings into nearby states after armed men stormed schools in Oyo, abducting students, teachers and other staff members.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has ordered the immediate revitalisation of the state’s Safe School Initiative following the recent abduction of teachers and pupils from schools in neighbouring Oyo State.

The governor’s directive comes amid growing fears of a possible spread of school attacks and kidnappings into nearby states after armed men stormed schools in Oyo, abducting students, teachers and other staff members.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke said the move was aimed at preventing any security breach within Osun’s school system, especially in rural and border communities.

The statement said the governor directed the Ministry of Education and other relevant security agencies to urgently reactivate and strengthen existing school protection structures across the state.
