STOKHOLM, May 17. /TASS/. F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jets of the Finnish Air Force were scrambled in Finland’s southeastern Pirkanmaa region over the potential drone activity, the Yle broadcaster said.
According to Yle, defense forces officially confirmed that control in these areas had been tightened.
Yle reported that early on May 15 that a drone had been likely spotted over the Uusimaa region, with the administrative center in Helsinki. Helsinki Airport suspended temporarily suspended flights because of the drone threat. Operations have since returned to normal. Finnish President Alexander Stubb later said there was no direct military threat.
Finland has repeatedly reported sightings of drones on its territory and in its airspace. Authorities in Helsinki condemned the flights and crashes of Ukrainian drones, calling the incidents unacceptable.
