SaharaReporters gathered that Duru was taken into custody following a report by the newspaper and repeated complaints from residents over alleged killings, torture, extortion and illegal detention activities linked to him and his armed gang.

A self-proclaimed vigilante leader accused of terrorising residents of Egwedu Autonomous Community in Atta, Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, Chibuike Duru, popularly known as Nwagbenta, has reportedly been arrested and released on bail by the police.

SaharaReporters gathered that Duru was taken into custody following a report by the newspaper and repeated complaints from residents over alleged killings, torture, extortion and illegal detention activities linked to him and his armed gang.

“The so-called vigilante leader Duru, also known as Nwagbenta, was arrested last week but was later released on bail,” a security source told SaharaReporters.
