A man has been banned from all Qantas Group flights, including Jetstar, after allegedly biting a crew member aboard flight QF21 from Melbourne to Dallas, forcing the aircraft to divert to Tahiti. The plane was forced to land in Papeete, Tahiti, where local authorities came on board the aircraft and arrested the passenger.The plane was refuelled and able to complete its journey to Dallas, while the passenger has been banned from all Qantas Group flights, which include Jetstar. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the passenger involved in the incident was not an Australian national. 9News learnt that the incident occurred aboard the flight during an 18-hour journey, and there were still nearly 11 hours left of the journey at the time of the disruption. After refuelling, the aircraft continued on to Dallas‑Fort Worth, arriving several hours late on Saturday morning (AEST).Fellow passengers rushed to assist the crew during the confrontation, and no serious injuries were reported. The exchange was filmed by comedian Mike Goldstein, who was travelling to Dallas and later shared the footage on Instagram.In his video, the passenger was seen stumbling, slurring his words, swearing at crew and other travellers, and appearing confused about being on a plane. "There are kids around everywhere, and you're acting immature," one flight attendant told him. "You have to behave yourself; you're on a plane."At one point, the passenger asked if a flight attendant was “smoking any we*d” and claimed he was “just about to walk out for a cigarette.” Goldstein’s footage also showed the man becoming more aggressive when directed to the back of the plane.According to aviation tracker AirNav Radar, the passenger allegedly bit a crew member, though this was not confirmed by Qantas or authorities at the time of filing of this report.— i (@i) A Qantas spokesperson told 9News.com.au: “The safety of our customers and our crew is our number one priority.
