BELFAST — The UK has announced it will procure 72 Remote Controlled Howitzers 155mm (RCH 155) under a future contract valued at close to £1 billion ($1.35 billion), with first deliveries slated to begin in 2028.

The new guns, mounted on Boxer armored vehicles, are capable of firing eight rounds per minute at targets out to 70 kilometres, the British Ministry of Defence (MoD) said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Advanced automation of the turret allows the platform to be operated at the push of a button from the crew compartment by just two soldiers,” it added.

The order has long been held up by delays to the Defence Investment Plan, which is expected to outline British equipment priorities over the next 10 years.
