TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Cagayan Valley is bracing for the “high possibility of a strong El Niño” next month until the end of the year, a regional official of the state weather bureau said.

Engineer Romeo Ganal Jr., chief of Pagasa Northern Luzon Forecasting Center stationed here, told the Inquirer on Friday that El Nino in the region— composed mostly of agricultural provinces—not only threatens severe drought that has already plagued farms but also will have a major impact on water supply, public health and energy security.
