A storm that battered the Western Cape has left a wake of destruction in its path as thousands of residents now battle to pick up the pieces.

The Western Cape Government’s Joint Operations Centre (JOC) is coordinating widespread mopping-up operations and the restoration of basic services across all affected districts.

So far, the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness has confirmed 10 deaths related to the adverse weather conditions across the province.

The City of Cape Town’s spokesperson for Disaster Risk Management, Charlotte Powell, said 67 informal settlements have been affected in the Cape Metro.
