MANILA, Philippines — Assumption College has taken down the portrait of Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda from its “Wall of Empowered Women” after the student council said the alumna “no longer reflects the values that Assumption upholds.”
The school’s student leaders on Friday released a statement supporting calls for the removal of Legarda’s portrait, saying recognition on the institution’s honor wall “must reflect not only achievement, but also character, responsibility and moral courage.”
Photos circulating online showed Legarda’s portrait no longer displayed on the wall.
