MANILA, Philippines — Allies of Vice President Sara Duterte have failed to generate the mass public support needed to influence or pressure institutions over her looming impeachment trial, a sociology and political science professor said on Saturday.

Speaking during the Saturday News Forum at Dapo Restaurant in Quezon City, Polytechnic University of the Philippines Assistant Professor Louie Montemar said repeated calls from Duterte supporters for people to take to the streets had failed to gain momentum.

“Have we not noticed that several calls have already been made by leaders or representatives of Duterte supporters, and we saw that they could not gather, mobilize, and sustain large numbers of people,” said Montemar, who also heads PUP’s Advocacy Center.
