But, really, the shot and the ensuing acrobatics drove home a greater truth: Aronimink Golf Club had Bryson in a blender during the first two rounds of the PGA Championship.Five shots later, he tapped in for double bogey, dropping to 9 over par through just 25 holes. Even after DeChambeau birdied 16, 17 and 18 to make a late run on Friday afternoon, he shot 71 to fall to 7 over par and miss the cut by three shots.
It cemented a strange two months for the YouTube sensation. After winning consecutive LIV events in March and breaking down in tears as he won in South Africa, DeChambeau missed the Masters cut after shooting 76-74 at Augusta National. Three days after the Masters, news surfaced of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund withdrawing from LIV Golf, leaving the startup golf league in turmoil. Then, DeChambeau withdrew from LIV Mexico City the next weekend with an injury. Now he won’t play the weekend at a second straight major. Here are some other notable players who missed the cut on Friday.
