ILOILO CITY—The Department of Agriculture (DA) has intensified preparations for a possible El Niño episode expected to affect parts of the country, including Western Visayas, after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) raised an “El Niño Alert” for 2026.
In an advisory on Friday, the DA warned that the developing El Niño phenomenon could bring above-normal temperatures, reduced rainfall and drought conditions that may affect crops, livestock and fisheries.
