Over the past 10 years, the team at Lucasfilm has tried to make way more Star Wars movies than it actually has. For every film that actually hits theaters, there are probably three or four that we know of that didn’t see the light of day. And now, with two new presidents at Lucasfilm, all of that has to shift. The future of Star Wars is a huge question mark. That begins to change next week with the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu. The film was produced and co-written by Dave Filoni, one of those new Lucasfilm presidents (along with Lynwen Brennan), and in a new interview, he spoke about how he’s approaching the future of the franchise he now controls. “I’m just looking at the stories and the potential and planning what I’d like to do,” Filoni told Collider. “I believe in having an overarching idea and then saying, ‘Okay, it’s this many of that, and then we can have that.’ There are certain things that have been in motion already that, obviously, I want to continue. Jon [Favreau] and I have had a great partnership for many years now, telling stories. So, I look at the stories that I’m kind of planning and architecting, and I look at other creative talents that bring us, also, great stories, and I just try to find a way to make them all work.”
