Rodopi MP Ferhat Ozgur has announced that he is quitting the New Left parliamentary group to sit as an independent.
Ozgur made the announcement in a letter to Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis, which was read out to the chamber.
His declaration as an independent MP comes amid reports of an imminent split in the Left Party, as former premier Alexis Tsipras plans to launch a new political movement. Earlier, it was announced that the New Left leadership had ruled out any prospect of cooperation with Tsipras.
On Monday evening, Ozgur attended a Tsirpas rally in Athens.
Reacting to the announcement, New Left said “everyone is judged by their choices.”
