A popular brand of children’s walkie talkies has been pulled from the shelves after it was discovered they were tuning into radio frequencies reserved for licensed operators like councils, transport, retail businesses, and regional mining operators.Kmart and Target recalled the Anko brand of Long Range Walkie Talkies sold in stores across the country between September 30, 2013 and February 6, this year.Due to an “oversight” they were tuned to 467.425 MHz which is private and used by licensed radio operators. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA)issued a statement on Friday urging people to “immediately stop” using these devices saying: “it may cause unintended interference with other licensed services operating on the same band”. If you have purchased these walkie talkies you can get a full refund after returning them to the respective stores. The 467.425 MHz is a licensed band and using without a license could risk breaking communication laws.
