A flash enforcement drive conducted by a special squad under the District Supply Officer against alleged illegal LPG-filling units in the district led to the detection of an unauthorised facility and the seizure of 91 cylinders and gas-filling equipment.
The inspection was conducted on Thursday (May 14, 2026) at Thechiyad in Omassery grama panchayat. The squad seized 62 cylinders from the suspected gas-filling unit, including 29 domestic cylinders, 31 commercial cylinders, and two small cylinders. Another 29 cylinders were allegedly found stored illegally in a nearby house.
The squad members said on Friday (May 15, 2026) that they had confiscated five motors allegedly used for transferring gas from domestic cylinders to commercial cylinders. The seized cylinders were handed over to the Indane Gas Agency for safe custody.
Rationing inspectors and taluk supply officers who were part of the squad said the inspections would continue with the support of more regional squads.
