Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi on his taking office and expressed confidence that his work will promote the development of cooperation between the two countries, according to Putin’s congratulatory message, cited by the As-Sumaria television channel.
"Russian-Iraqi relations rest on deep traditions of friendship and mutual respect," the Russian leader noted. "I hope that your work as the head of government will promote closer mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation in various spheres, which will be in the interests of our peoples and regional stability and security."
The Russian president wished al-Zaidi "all the best, as well as health and prosperity."
Earlier, the Iraqi parliament expressed its confidence in the country’s new government and approved the government’s program presented by the prime minister.
