This week, the U.S. government began offering refunds on the Trump administration’s illegal tariffs—but only to businesses that paid the government directly. And many of these businesses are not filing, for whatever reason. Small businesses do not have the support they need to do the filing, or they may have something that’s too complex to really file about. Some businesses sold their right to a refund to hedge funds. And many of those businesses passed their costs on to consumers. On average, American families have each spent about $1,744.75 on tariffs. It’s a lot of money they’re not getting back.
