Some international reports suggest that a university degree alone no longer guarantees a stable career, and that skills are more valuable than job titles. These reports say the question has changed from “What should I study?” to “Which skills will remain in demand in the job market?”
Skills-gap reports try to understand transformations in the global labour market and what they mean for a university degree. The American multinational management consulting firm McKinsey has been tracking the changes automation and artificial intelligence have made in the job market. McKinsey believes some traditional roles will decline while new positions requiring advanced and analytical capabilities will emerge.
According to the World Economic Forum’s 2025 Future of Jobs report, more than half of the global workforce will need retraining to meet the requirements of future jobs.
