Al-Fanar Media is hosting a new webinar in the Al-Fanar Media Talks series to discuss the future of women business leaders in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Called “Beyond Representation: Women, Power, and the Future of Leadership in the GCC,” the webinar will take place at 6:00 p.m. Cairo time on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, and will be streamed live via Zoom and Al-Fanar Media’s Facebook page.
The discussion follows the release of the Gulf Cooperation Council Board Gender Index Report 2026, which showed that women now hold 7% of board seats across the region, a marginal increase from previous years which raises questions about the pace of change.

Mohammad El-Hawary, chief executive and editor-in-chief of Al-Fanar Media, will moderate the talk which will feature Professor Dame Heather McGregor, British executive, journalist and academic and Provost and Vice Principal of Heriot-Watt University Duba, the report’s principal investigator. Professor McGregor will provide insights into what the data does, and does not, reveal.
