Motorcyclists from across Bulgaria are preparing nationwide protests on Friday evening, with planned road blockades expected to disrupt traffic on major highways, bridges, and key intersections throughout the country. The demonstrations are directed against the sharp increase in mandatory third-party liability insurance prices, which riders describe as unjustified and excessive.
The protests are scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. and will involve motorcycle groups and clubs from multiple cities. Organizers say the actions are civic demonstrations aimed at drawing attention to what they call unfair treatment by insurance companies and the lack of transparency behind the recent price hikes.
In Sofia, riders are expected to gather near Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and Al. Batenberg Square, with several central streets likely to be temporarily closed. Similar demonstrations are planned in other parts of the country, including Plovdiv, where protesters intend to block the roundabout connecting Pazardzhik Road and the Ring Road.
Additional road blockades are expected near the Danube Bridge in Ruse, along the Maritsa highway near the Novo Selo junction toward Greece, on the E79 route near Montana in the direction of Danube Bridge 2, as well as in Burgas, Sopot, and Stara Zagora.
