Diesel was up close to 37 percent because of the Middle East conflict, however, food prices were flat.

Overall food prices rose just 2.6% annually, despite surging fuel costs.

While UK inflation held steady in August, the pace of price rises for food surged, increasing cost of living pressures.

The biggest upward pressure on inflation last month came from air fares.
