The civil servants’ umbrella union, ADEDY, has called on its member federations to organize a nationwide campaign across the public sector on Tuesday to drum up support for a 24-hour strike scheduled for the following day.
“The strike must constitute the organized and mass response of all public employees,” ADEDY said in a statement, adding that Tuesday’s mobilization aims to strengthen participation.
The main demands being brought by unions include wage increases, measures to address rising living costs, improved workplace health and safety, and the permanent hiring of contract workers. ADEDY also criticized proposed constitutional changes affecting job security in the public sector. The union urged local branches and affiliated federations to intensify outreach efforts through workplace meetings, rallies and public events.
The main strike rally in Athens is scheduled for 10.30 a.m. on Wednesday, starting at Klafthmonos Square and then heading to Parliament.
