It’s hard to keep track of what’s going on in the US electric vehicle market. Several automakers have stopped producing EVs or pulled EV models off the market, while others are in a kind of limbo state. The Volkswagen ID. Buzz is one of those models that has been in a kind of limbo zone.
The 2026 model year VW ID. Buzz for the US market was dropped several months ago, with production of the vehicle paused. But it was not canceled. An upgraded 2027 model has been in the works, and the company is planning to resume production of the vehicle in 2026 once that’s ready. Yay!
This was confirmed by Volkswagen Group of America president and CEO Kjell Gruner. “The ID Buzz remains an important part of the Volkswagen portfolio,” Gruner told Motor Trend in December, “and I want to be clear: We are not canceling this product in the US market. To optimize inventory, we’re leveraging 2025 models to support our dealers through mid-year, and we’re excited to welcome model year 2027 in 2026.”
So, basically, there wasn’t enough consumer demand to keep producing the Buzz, but the company was working on a more compelling update that should sell better (hopefully).
