MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Panfilo Lacson on Friday said the Senate’s planned convening as an impeachment court for Vice President Sara Duterte is a “good first step” toward restoring the institution’s dignity following Wednesday night’s shooting incident inside the chamber.

On Wednesday, gunfire erupted inside the Senate premises amid tensions surrounding the possible arrest of Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, prompting lockdown procedures and drawing international attention, including coverage from The New York Times.

“We landed in the international news for the wrong reasons. It was ugly, the shooting in the Philippine Senate as breaking news. So it is time to recover,” Lacson said in English and Filipino in an interview over True FM.
