It took authorities one month to put out the fire that broke out at the Navotas Sanitary Landfill on April 10.
On Sunday, May 10, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that the fire had been extinguished.
For weeks, pockets of fire smoldered across the site, with thick smoke billowing over surrounding communities.
Based on a satellite image captured on April 26, there has been so far an estimated 31.95 hectares of burnt area.
To put that in perspective, 31.95 hectares is roughly equivalent to about 760 basketball courts.
