Wes Streeting has resigned as health secretary, on the day the NHS in England hit its 18-week target for hospital treatment.
There was good news for England’s NHS as it hit its target for the number of patients waiting 18 weeks. It was the biggest improvement in waiting times in 16 years.
It also recorded its best year on record for elective care, with more than half a million more people starting treatment or completing care compared with last year.
