The Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services has served a notice on a cosmetology clinic in Coimbatore to cease its operations for not following protocols as per new regulations for such clinics.

The action was initiated against a clinic of Sukira Aesthetics at Vadavalli in Coimbatore based on complaints from the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL), Tamil Nadu branch.

As per the notice dated May 13 served by V. Sumathi, Joint Director of Medical and Rural Health Services, the clinic was inspected on April 29 based on complaints received from IADVL Tamil Nadu branch, its president P.K. Kaviarasan, secretary M. Prem Kumar and legal advisor R. Elayaraja.

During the inspection, a BDS degree holder alone was available at the clinic and the person did not possess any additional qualification to perform hair transplantation. The clinic did not have an anaesthetist or a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist and only one registered and qualified staff nurse was available at the time of the inspection.
