Xero is taking a pragmatic approach to the threat of artificial intelligence and its core business keeps growing. But investors don’t want to hear about it.

Sukhinder Singh Cassidy, the chief executive of small business accounting software firm Xero, is determined to tough out the SaaSpocolyse.

Other Aussie software giants that have seen the artificial intelligence threat demolish their share prices in the past six months, such as Atlassian’s Mike Cannon-Brookes and WiseTech Global’s Richard White, have responded with big cost-cutting programs and promises to become AI-led businesses. But Singh Cassidy is playing it cool.
