The government on Tuesday launched mobile discount grocery sales from pickup trucks and motorcycles to distribute cheaper consumer goods to people in remote areas of Thailand.Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun rode a motorcycle with a sidecar containing a load of daily essentials at Government House in a symbolic launch of a campaign to cut the cost of living.

The goal is to make consumer products with discounts available to more people at a time when prices are rising because of the energy crisis sparked by the Middle East war.

Mr Anutin said the goods carried on pickup trucks, motorcycles and motorcycles with sidecars were 10% to 30% cheaper than prices at markets and shopping malls and their standards were not compromised.
