Michael is a PhD graduate from Dublin City University's LERO Research Centre. He has published research on fairness in AI algorithms used in the justice system, healthcare and income prediction.

His doctoral research and peer-reviewed publications show that AI models can pass every fairness check and still harm marginalised subgroups, such as black women and older minorities.

With the EU's AI Act now being enforced, this research has moved from academic to legally urgent. The Act requires organisations to examine bias, mitigate risk and support human oversight in AI systems.

Alongside his research, Michael lectures on responsible AI at DCU Business School and has proposed the first dedicated AI governance curriculum for DCU's Business School.
