NYT Defends Journalist Who Documented Israelis' Alleged Sex Abuse Of PalestiniansThe New York Times came to columnist Nicholas Kristof's defense on Tuesday after his report detailing horrific allegations of widespread sexual abuse against Palestinian detainees led some pro-Israel figures -- including the Israeli Foreign Ministry itself -- to question the journalist's credibility and accuse him of "blood libel."In a statement, Times spokesperson Charlie Stadtlander said Kristof "is a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who has reported on sexual violence for decades, and is widely regarded as one of the world's best on-the-ground reporters documenting and bearing witness to sexual abuse experienced by women and men in war and conflict zones."Citing 14 firsthand testimonies, Kristof reported on Palestinian men, women and children who said they were sexually assaulted or raped by settlers or members of the security forces while detained in one of Israel's multiple documented torture camps like Sde Teiman."It's a simple proposition," Kristof wrote. "Whatever our views of the Middle East conflict, we should be able to unite in condemning rape."Despite the allegations being backed by human rights groups, the United Nations, independent studies and Israeli media, public figures like former Biden antisemitism czar Deborah Lipstadt and journalist David Shuster called Kristof and his reporting into question.See All UpdatesClose
