Premier Giorgia Meloni met United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio for talks at her office at Palazzo Chigi on Friday.
The premier welcomed Rubio with a handshake and a kiss on the cheek and posed for photos before the talks began.
The American delegation for the meeting included US Ambassador to Italy Tilman J.
Fertitta.
Earlier on Friday Rubio had a meeting with his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani and on Thursday he had an audience with Pope Leo XIV in the Vatican that was described as "friendly and constructive".
