The Event and Entertainment Management Association that launched its Tamil Nadu chapter on May 5, 2026 (Tuesday) plans to the develop the western districts of the State as wedding destinations.

D.V. Vinod Gopal, Vice President – South of the Association, told The Hindu that places such as Udaipur in Rajasthan are popular as wedding destinations. However, except for the forts, all other properties and arrangements for the events are erected for the event and these come with several disadvantages.

There are several locations in the western districts that are natural and scenic and can be ideal wedding destinations. The local culture and traditions can be promoted here too. The Association will work on developing the western districts of Tamil Nadu as a wedding destination.

When a destination wedding is organised, more than 30 supporting sectors also get a boost. Thus there is huge scope for economic development of the region.

It is estimated that an average mid-income Indian spends 30 % to 50 % of his or her savings on weddings of their children. However, organising an event for a client attracts 18 % GST. Hence, most of the spending goes to the unorganised sectors. This is an issue that needs to be addressed, he added.
