A case has been registered after authorities said that a forged school certificate was used to facilitate the marriage of a minor girl during a recent mass wedding ceremony in Talakeri village of Yelburga taluk, Koppal district.
According to Deputy Commissioner Suresh B. Itnal, the incident came to light following reports of irregularities during the event at the Eshwar temple in the village. He said that documents certifying the girl’s age were found to be fabricated.
A preliminary inquiry confirmed the use of falsified records following which the Bevoor Police registered a case against the girl’s parents and members of the temple committee under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.
Mr. Itnal said that directions have been issued to the authorities concerned to ensure close monitoring to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
The Department of School Education and Literacy has also been instructed to take necessary preventive measures.
