Roughly one in seven Americans suffers from hearing loss. Jane Lynch is one of them.
The 65-year-old actress and comedian − who became a household name as the ruthless cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester on "Glee" − first noticed her hearing start to go in her early 50s. She hadn't experienced hearing loss symptoms herself before then, but she knew what was coming. After all, she'd seen hearing loss play out for her late father Frank Lynch.
Her dad put off taking action on it, but Lynch decided to act fast. She started wearing smart glasses with hearing assistance technology by Nuance Audio and has since partnered with the company to raise awareness about hearing loss and encourage others to take action.
One of the biggest obstacles to getting help, Lynch says, is the stigma that still persists.
"I had experienced it with what happened with my dad, how he kind of started to recede," Lynch says. "I refused to do that."
