A batch of 37 award-winning teachers from Andhra Pradesh has begun a five-day training programme at the National Institute of Education (NIE) in Singapore, the first leg of a State government initiative to send 66 teachers on foreign training trips, State Project Director, Samagra Shiksha, B. Srinivasa Rao said.

In a press statement issued on Monday (May 4, 2026), Mr. Srinivasa Rao said the initiative was aimed at improving the quality of teaching in the State to meet global standards. The 37 teachers in the first phase, all winners of the State Best Teacher Award in 2025, are attending the programme at NIE Singapore from May 4 to 8, while the remaining 29 will travel to Finland in the second phase. The programme is in line with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision to bring students in the State on a par with their peers from other countries, he said.

The initiative is designed to transform teachers from mere providers of information into facilitators of learning who inspire critical thinking among students, he said. He added that the selection process was based on merit and free from political influence.
