Welcoming the Supreme Court order that granted anticipatory bail to party spokesperson Pawan Khera in a defamation case filed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife, the Congress on Friday (May 1, 2026) termed it a “victory of the Constitution” and said the ruling reaffirmed that the law stands above all.

Addressing a press conference along with Congress communications chief Jairam Ramesh, senior leader and Rajya Sabha member Abhishek Manu Singhvi said the verdict underscored that courts remain the “ultimate bedrock of hope” when personal liberty is at stake.
