A 50-year-old man died of electrocution on Saturday morning after he allegedly climbed a transformer to restore electricity supply to his house in a village near Manapparai in Tiruchi district.
The victim was identified as Innasi, 50, son of Nallathambi, a resident of N. Poolampatti in V. Periyapatti village under Vaiyampatti limits. The police said he was a construction worker and was not an employee of the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd..
According to sources, Innasi reportedly attempted to fix a fuse at a transformer located about 50 metres from his house after power supply to his residence was disrupted. He is said to have climbed the transformer without obtaining authorisation from the TNPDCL. During the attempt, he suffered an electric shock and died on the spot.
The body was later retrieved from the transformer and sent for post-mortem examination.
Innasi is survived by his wife, Sagayamary, and two children, both of whom are married and living separately.
