A plane crash in the Texas Hill Country has left five people dead, officials say.

Emergency crews responded to the crash at 11:05 p.m. Thursday, April 30, in Wimberley, Texas, a Cessna 421C had crashed with five people on board, according to a statement from Hays County Judge Rubem Becerra.

"Authorities have confirmed that all five occupants lost their lives as a result of the incident," read Becerra's statement. "Preliminary information indicates the aircraft was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of impact."

Becerra noted that there was a second aircraft in the vicinity that landed safely in New Braunfels and that there was "no indication of a mid-air collision.

Becerra confirmed to USA TODAY that the plane had departed from an airport near Amarillo in the Texas Panhandle that day and was scheduled to land at the New Braunfels airport that night.
