Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) faced criticism and some laughter from a group of Belmont University students in Nashville, who challenged him on multiple arguments he made during a heated town hall meeting Monday.
“It’s delightfully ironic that he’s here. He just strikes me as a charlatan and a grifter, and I’ve been sorely underwhelmed and unhappy with him,” student Nelson Hester told the Nashville Scene.
Ogles, who received backlash in March for stating that “Muslims don’t belong in American society,” appeared at the town hall organized by the College Republicans at Belmont University.
His appearance came less than a year after he called for a federal investigation into the school for allegedly practicing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Ogles began his town hall by recalling the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, claiming “there were layers of security, but it was more relaxed, arguably, than it has been historically.”
